Mill/Turn Simulation : EDGECAM offers a full kinematic Simulation package. All the cycles and movements are supported along with the full graphics of the machine, tails stocks and steadies meaning peace of mind as the part is fully tested before reaching the actual machine tool. The simulator being a very powerful tool in its own right offering full collision detection including many display options allowing the user full control over every aspect of the simulation. Feedback is given to the user showing which commands are being simulated, this will also display which elements of the program may have caused issues. Comparison tools will confirm the part is being machined as expected before outputting to CNC code to the machine tool.
4/5 Axis Simultaneous Mill Turn machines have many uses and allow much more flexibility and capabilities not offered from other machine configurations. With this in mind many of these have multi axis, upper turrets, lower turret, CYB and Sub Spindles. EDGECAM offers a wide range of 4 and 5 axis Operations and Maximum control in its cycles, with the Advanced 5 Axis options allowing even greater potential. With the addition of 4 and 5 axis simultaneous milling the simulation of these machine tools and fixtures is made easier, even for experienced manufacturing engineers.

Machine and database : Radm-ax contains a comprehensive database of laser and water-jet machines from a large number of Machine Tool manufacturers; including NTC, Prima, Trumpf and Amada. Should a machine not be supported, Radm-ax also contains a Machine Setup utility that allows the configuration of bespoke machine types and postprocessing information. The advanced postprocessors arent just limited to the use of generic G and M codes; posts are easily configured to suit different head configurations and table sizes.
Automated fixture design : Stamped forms typically need to be held using fixtures and within Radm-ax this can be done in a number of ways. One way is to import clamps and fixtures from external files and then manually reposition them. Another way is to use the Fixture Design utility to create the support fixtures using sheet metal. Simply define the number of horizontal and vertical support sheets, how they interlock - including locking features if you require them - and how they run-off the part. Once these details have been defined, Radm-ax creates each sheet, nests them on standard sheet metal sizes, adds assembly notes such as number references and creates the NC code with which to manufacture them.
Cutting-path creation : Cutting operations within Radm-ax can generally be divided into two areas: inner and outer trims. Outer trims are the external forms of the part whilst inner trims represent the internal cut-outs and other features to be machined. The basic toolpaths for these cutting operations can be automatically generated by the automation tools built into to Radmax. User interaction is available for all toolpath types to allow for manual creation and refinement. Radm-ax provides a great amount of control over how each inner or outer trim is handled; for example, creating microjoints to hold the material in place until processing is finished becomes quick and uncomplicated. The toolpath can also be edited in terms of how the cutting nozzle is angled towards it or how it handles jigs and fixture features.
Reduce machine wear : Radm-ax has a wealth of in-built features that allow for the optimization of the laser toolpath. For example, by smoothing out the toolpath in areas around tight corners or small features, Radm-ax will optimize the toolpath to reduce the wear on the machine tool at the same time; ensuring that feeds and speeds are maintained across the job
NC code simulation : The NC code can be re-imported into Radm-ax and simulated within the same environment in which it was created. The NC simulation shows how the tool moves through space.

    Deep cavity / core machining. Many complex molds contain deep cavity areas and small radii which need to be machined with small diameter tools. By approaching this from a different angle, the head can be lowered and the collision detection will automatically tilt the tool and holder away from the work piece. The major advantage of this strategy is the use of shorter tools which will increase tool rigidity, reducing vibration and deflection. 

    3D to 5 axis conversion. All 3D toolpaths can be converted to 5 axis operations which dramatically increases the number of strategies available to cover any scenario. Using this approach will apply high speed machining technology to 5 axis toolpaths. The 3D > 5 axis conversion provides intelligent collision detection and will automatically tilt away from the piece only when required. This type of semi-automatic toolpath will dramatically speed up programming and shorten the learning curve.

    Turbine / blisk machining. Turbine / blisk machining is commonly performed using 4 axis. The turbines or blisks are often rough machined using various methods including plunge roughing which can be applied to the toolpaths and is a useful approach but turn milling is often the most common. Turn milling allows the highest values for chip volumes per minute, regular engagement of the tool leading to a smooth cut, a balanced spindle load and a constant movement in all 5 axis, reducing any reciprocating movement in the fixturing system. Finishing is the most important part of the process and a continuous spiral toolpath along the part is required to achieve the necessary surface finish for these complex parts. 
    Impeller machining. VISI provides all the necessary tools for successful 5 axis impeller machining. High surface quality, limited space and the angular motion of the rotational axis make the machining of impellers one of the most complex 5 axis machining tasks. 
    Trimming. 5 axis trimming is a common application especially used in the automotive or vacuum forming industry for groove milling or boundary trimming. For this type of strategy, the tool position is calculated normal to the face direction following a drive curve. For additional control, synchronization curves can be used to control the tool movement in local areas. The potential direction changes are at there most extreme when using this type of strategy so the collision detection and toolpath simulation are an invaluable tool.
    Collision control. The smallest movement of the cutter can result in large movements in all axes of the 5 axis machine as each movement is amplified via the tool, holder and spindle. In the case of a collision, VISI provides multiple methods for collision avoidance using smooth axis movements. The collision avoidance strategies include cutter retraction along the tool axis, tool tilting for holder collisions and pulling the tool away from the work piece in a given direction. In addition to the automatic collision avoidance, the rotation axis can also be restricted to user-defined axis limits preventing over travel of the spindle.

    This module is used for complex parts with deep cavities, high and steep surfaces, undercuts and small radii.
